The Å·ÖÞ±ÍøͶ_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø Choir and Å·ÖÞ±ÍøͶ_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø Choral Artists will mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I with themes of war and peace at their fall concert Oct. 26.
The free concert will be at 7:30 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, 1230 5th Ave., Moline, Ill. A post-concert reception will offer hot chocolate, cider, coffee and cookies.
¡°The concert comes just a few weeks before this important anniversary, with Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday both falling on November 11, so the timing of the performance is of significance,¡± said Dr. Jon Hurty, conductor of both groups
The concert will include classical choral music, popular choral music and vocal jazz. ¡°It¡¯s really a great variety of different styles in choral music,¡± said Dr. Hurty.
The Å·ÖÞ±ÍøͶ_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø Choir is a select 60-voice ensemble of students. Established in 1931, it has been conducted by Dr. Hurty since 1996.
The 16 members of Å·ÖÞ±ÍøͶ_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø Choral Artists are choir alumni, music teachers and accomplished musicians in the area. Now in its second season, the ensemble will perform regularly with the Å·ÖÞ±ÍøͶ_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø Choir.
Å·ÖÞ±ÍøͶ_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø Choral Artists will be featured in the Handel Oratorio Society¡¯s spring performance of Bach¡¯s ¡°Jesu, meine Freude.¡±
