Student-athletes inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma honor society
Å·ÖÞ±ÍøͶ_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø Å·ÖÞ±ÍøͶ_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø recently celebrated a proud milestone with the induction of 106 student-athletes into Chi Alpha Sigma, the National Å·ÖÞ±ÍøͶ_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø Athlete Honor Society. This marks the college¡¯s first class of inductees into the prestigious honor society.
Chi Alpha Sigma recognizes student-athletes who excel academically, compete at the intercollegiate level and demonstrate strong character. Inducted members gain lifelong membership and are eligible for exclusive scholarships and internships.
¡°They will be the people in their organizations who know how to push through to get things done and collaborate with others.¡±
¡°Induction into Chi Alpha Sigma is a wonderful way to recognize the many Augie student-athletes who have been committed to their respective sport and excelled at a high level in the classroom,¡± said Michael Zapolski, director of athletics.
Chi Alpha Sigma honors undergraduate college student-athletes who participate in an intercollegiate varsity sport, achieve junior academic standing or higher and earn a 3.5 or higher cumulative grade point average. The honor society is the first, and only, national scholar-athlete society to honor four-year collegiate student-athletes who have excelled in both the classroom and in athletic competition.
¡°Being a student-athlete requires commitment, discipline and balance,¡± said Å·ÖÞ±ÍøͶ_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø President Andrea Talentino. ¡°Å·ÖÞ±ÍøͶ_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø's philosophy of athletics revolves around excellence in the classroom and on the field of play so it's exciting to have 106 students being inducted to Chi Alpha Sigma who exemplify that standard.¡±
Å·ÖÞ±ÍøͶ_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø¡¯s inaugural class includes 54 men and 52 women, with a combined cumulative GPA of 3.77. Twenty-six inductees hold a GPA of 3.90 or higher. Twenty-two men¡¯s and women¡¯s teams were represented at the induction.
The distinction marks these student-athletes not only as role models on campus but also in their lives after college, said President Talentino.
¡°They will be the people in their organizations who know how to push through to get things done and collaborate with others,¡± she said. ¡°They've shown focus and self-discipline in their athletic efforts throughout their lives, and that character makes them the impactful citizens we are so proud of.¡±
