SWLI kicks off second year of lead project

Representatives from Å·ÖÞ±­ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±­ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø Å·ÖÞ±­ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±­ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø, Scott County and Genesis Health System gathered Thursday to congratulate more than 100 Å·ÖÞ±­ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±­ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø students on their work to address lead contamination in Scott County, and kick off the second year of the project.

Swedish genealogists to offer services

The Swenson Swedish Immigration Research Center at Å·ÖÞ±­ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±­ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø Å·ÖÞ±­ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±­ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø will welcome the return of the renowned SwedGenTour Sept. 30. These professional genealogists from Sweden will give lectures on Swedish genealogy, searching records, inventories and more.

Yarn bomb events begin Aug. 28

This fall, Å·ÖÞ±­ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±­ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø will seek the help of Quad-City citizens to "yarn bomb" a tree along 7th Avenue in Rock Island.

Dr. Aaron Kivisto '04 finds that U.S. citizens living in states with the weakest gun laws are more than twice as likely to be fatally shot by police compared to those living in states with the strongest gun laws.

Rural buildings pose greater threat to birds

Å·ÖÞ±­ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±­ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø professor of biology Dr. Stephen Hager is the lead author of a new paper that finds larger buildings in rural areas pose a greater threat to birds than if those buildings were in an urban area. Å·ÖÞ±­ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±­ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø a billion birds are killed every year when they fly into buildings.
