Overview: Celebration of Learning 2017

Dr. Al Bowman '75, president emeritus of Illinois State University, will deliver the address at Å·ÖÞ±ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø Å·ÖÞ±ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø¡¯s 157th commencement convocation on May 21. Pastor Paul Bailie '04, pastor at Iglesia Luterana San Lucas in Eagle Pass, Texas, will deliver the sermon at Å·ÖÞ±ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø¡¯s baccalaureate service earlier that day.

Taking research on the road

Choir joins in massive Bach masterwork
A mighty fortress of sound is guaranteed this weekend as the Quad City Symphony Orchestra, the Å·ÖÞ±ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø Choir and others marshal forces for J.S. Bach's "St. Matthew Passion."

Å·ÖÞ±ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø to host speaker for talks about Islam
Å·ÖÞ±ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø Å·ÖÞ±ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø will host internationally renowned author and speaker Zohra Sarwari for two events on April 19 and 20. She will present ¡°No, I am Not a Terrorist¡± on Wednesday, April 19 at 7 p.m., and ¡°Are Muslim Women Oppressed¡± on Thursday, April 20 at 10:30 a.m. Both events, which are free and open to the public, will take place in Wallenberg Hall.
Livingston '86 named president of Lewis University
Dr. David J. Livingston has been appointed as the 10th president of Lewis University, a private Catholic school in Romeoville, Ill. He graduated from Å·ÖÞ±ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø Å·ÖÞ±ÍøÍ¶_Å·ÖÞ±ÍâΧapp-Ͷע¹ÙÍø with a degree in chemistry in 1986.

NPR host to give annual Curtis Lecture
Maria Hinojosa, host of NPR's "Latino USA," will give this year's Ellwood F. Curtis Family Lectureship in Public Affairs at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 21 in Wallenberg Hall on the second floor of the Denkmann Memorial Building (3520 7th Ave., Rock Island). Her lecture is titled, "The case for owning our power and our voice: Now more than ever." Admission is free.
